New Patient Group aimed at Young People in Cowal

Cowal Youth Patient Participation Group is being created to give a voice to young people about how their health care services are designed...

Who is Setting Up this Group

The Cowal Youth Patient Participation Group is being set up by Strachur Medical Practice with help from the Strachur Patient Participation Group.

However, Strachur Medical Practice is only helping set it up.  Once the group is up and running, it will be independent from the Health Service.  This is important to ensure that it can represent the views of young people in Cowal.

Strachur Medical Practice set up Cowal's first Patient Participation Group in 2012 using experience that the GP in Strachur, Robbie Coull, had from setting up the first Patient Participation Group in Prince Edward Island, Canada in 2009.

Robbie Coull says: "There are lots of benefits to patients and the health service of working closely together, and the success of our Patient Participation Group has been the backbone of our success as a practice."

The Strachur PPG won a national NHS award in 2020 for their work.

The Cowal Youth Patient Participation Group will be independent from the Health Service, and represent the views of young patients in Cowal.
